Take a good look because this is the best preview yet of the production model's design.
The newly unveiled Ford Bronco R racing truck arrives to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Rod Hall’s Baja 1000 victory in the original generation of the tough SUV. Shelby Hall, Rod’s granddaughter, will run the new one in portions of this year's Baja 1000. Before the Baja 1000 outing, Ford will take the Bronco R to the Baja Peninsula for a nearly 1,000-mile (1,609-kilometer) torture test.

The Bronco R rides a modified version of the production vehicle's chassis. An overhauled suspension with Fox components allows for 14 inches of travel in the front and 18 inches in the rear. A set of 37-inch BFGoodrich tires wrap around 17-inch beadlock-capable aluminum wheels.
Ford's announcement only says that the engine is a twin-turbo unit. Motor1.com's Gabriel Vega was at the launch event and got a look at the powerplant. He said it appeared to be Ford's 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6.
The Bronco R is the best preview yet of how the production vehicle might look. However, the version in dealers likely doesn't have tires poking out past the fenders. The racer also uses a composite clamshell hood. A removable panel in the roof allows access to the single rear seat. Fifteen LED light bars adorn the exterior, including one in the center that subtly has "BRONCO" lettering.
The interior is spartan, and with no windows, there's always at least a thin layer of dirt and sand covering every surface. The driver grips a think steering wheel. The instrument readout appears on a screen at the top of the center stack, and there's a large control panel beneath it.
Get Up To Speed With The Upcoming Ford Bronco:
Ford started the Bronco R project in July, and the company kept the work a secret by having a small team focus on it. They worked out of room in the basement in Ford's design studio. An effective work van shelving and storage system, both in the interior and exterior parts of your utility vehicle, will allow you for more professional-looking and competent workspace.
